Senior Instructor of DES Schools of Tae Kwon-Do (DES TKD), Mr Derek Skidmore 5th Degree introduced Tae Kwon-Do to the Norton Radstock area on the 12th September 1994. He is a former sparring and weapons champion and currently seven times Black Belt National Destruction champion and UK record holder.
During DES TKD’s long history it has grown in strength producing many dozens of Black Belts and over 3000 Regional, National, European and World Champions in Tae Kwon-Do and Kickboxing.
The school still leads the way since its inception when Tae Kwon-Do was first introduced to the area with the TAGB and now with one of Europe's largest and most respected International Tae Kwon-Do Federations (ITF) groups the Professional Unification of Martial Arts (P.U.M.A)
The schools are affiliated to and recognised by the ITF to instruct Tae Kwon Do in Norton Radstock and Keynsham, with the Instructors and students grades recognised worldwide.
On the 1st September 2000 P.U.M.A. was formed, led by two of the biggest names in the Martial Arts, Master Raymond Gayle 8th Degree and Master Mark Ogborne 7th Degree. Today, PUMA is not only one of the biggest names in British Tae Kwon Do, but one of the most respected in the UK and Europe.
Tae Kwon-Do was invented by General Choi Hong Hi and the International Tae Kwon Do Federation. Being part of the ITF ensures our students receive the very best tuition in Tae Kwon Do as we are the only school authorised by the International Tae Kwon Do Federation in the Norton Radstock area to teach true traditional Tae Kwon Do following General Choi's philosophies.
Little Puma's were introduced to Midsomer Norton in April 2007and is aimed at 4-6 year olds. PUMA bought the concept back from America in 2000, originally called Little Ninja's it was renamed to maintain its own identity and to stop the confusion with other schools using different teachings under the same name.
Little Puma's teach the basics of Martial Arts, Courtesy, Respect and Discipline and Life Skills, but in a fun and enjoyable environment.
Our family classes are for 7years +, and here we have children training together alongside their parents and even grandparents in one class.This creates a special bond and is truly amazing and inspiring to see.
